WORKSHOP

ANIMAL MINDFULNESS

COM EDDIE OROYAN

Sábado, 19 de Outubro
Das 11h
às 15h

Valor: 40

An open level movement exploration and contemporary dance class to mindfully train the brain alongside the body, to develop awareness and choice. The two-part class will range from meditative to impulsive, but with an ‘as we are, not as we want to be’ approach. Tools and guiding are offered throughout the class to enable subtle and gross awareness and develop presence. The goal is to observe and understand the animal inside, to recognize the direct weave of the mind and body, and to learn how mindful decision and wildness can coexist. The class is inspired from working with companies Ultima Vez and Emanuel Gat Dance and through years of daily meditation.

In the first part, we will dance and move around the space together using tools to expand awareness to the subtle and gross sensations in our bodies while at the same time accepting what we find without attachment or avulsion. We will awaken our other senses and play with how they can affect our movement experience. We will work in a way that encourages new pathways in the brain that lead to a more present state of being rather than a destination focus.

The second part will attend to empathic moving and to that wildness inside, that animal that we all are. We will try to wake up in the body what it seems to not remember. There will be games and structured play to benefit reflex and proper response training built around the concepts of equanimity that we will explore in the first day. We can tap into a hyper-intelligence when we can move from this animal, without fear or self-judging.

“As with all truly wild things, care is necessary in approaching them.”

                                 – The Name of the Wind, Patrick Rothfuss

In the world of art, in the field of dance, we find it vital to be uncompromising in our proposals. Art should push boundaries and ushers people out of comfort. However, to do this and still take care of our minds and bodies we also believe that a culture of care and sensitivity is essential to that process. Our rule: We can go to extremes only if we first establish trust.

Pulling from the idea of the ideomotor phenomenon that is considered the ‘invisible player’ in an Ouija board game, our curiosity dives into how to train at the subconscious level, the level where we ‘do’ without thinking. In this partnering class we emphasize hyper listening and empathic moving, we question what it means to join a movement journey and to explore manipulation in solidarity. We train to let our ‘animal spirit’ under the skin move (through) us, but we also train that animal to take care and pay special attention to our partner’s body and movement. We use a series of tools and games to help free the mind to be available and to make these quick reactions/decisions, but also to help understand how our bodies are sensitive instruments that can receive and render subtle information.

The class is designed for intermediate/advanced movers. We both are practitioners of Vipassana meditation and much of our understanding of awareness and equanimity is infused into our class. Concurrently, influence from our professional experience certainly bleeds into this training, but much of movement discoveries come from our own personal research and practice, an ongoing study to seamlessly exchange/share leadership as equal partners.

MY HOMELESS LOVER www.myhomelesslover.com

(Co- founded by Eddie Bruno Oroyan & Jessica Eirado Enes in 2018)

EDDIE BRUNO OROYAN

Oroyan worked with Ultima Vez for six years, having toured and performed primarily with What the Body Does not Remember and In Spite of Wishing and Wanting. He is currently working with Emmanuel Gat Dance on the projects TEN WORKS and STORY WATER as well as making his own work with Jessica Eirado Enes in their company My Homeless Lover.

His experience also spans Creach/Company(NYC), Shapiro & Smith, ARENA Dances, Zenon, Andrea Miller, and Roberto Olivan. He was a founding mover and an Artistic Associate for company Black Label Movement and continues as an active choreographer. His most recent collaborations presented at American Dance Festival 2014 (w/ Carl Flink) and Zürich Tanzt 2015(w/ Rakesh Sukesh). Eddie presented a solo in 2016 at P12 Space in Brussels and a duet with Natalia Pieczuro, ENTROPY, as part of Dag van de Dans 2017 at STUK.

After an injury in late 2014, Oroyan began a practice of meditation and observation. His performing and studies have long included animal reflex training and proper response, but his new practice has and continues to teach him curiosity and awareness of the more subtle and delicate, the empathetic. After returning to performing and teaching, Oroyan is moved to explore and share these discoveries through the stage and classroom.
